Learn Zhineng Qigong
The mind-body practice developed by Dr. Pang Ming, proven at the Huaxia medicine-less hospital, and shared worldwide by Master Yuantong Liu.
Zhineng Qigong (meaning "Wisdom Qigong") is a Chinese mind-body practice system developed by Dr. Pang Ming in the late 1970s, combining gentle movement, meditation, and consciousness training to cultivate Qi and support self-healing. It synthesizes traditional Chinese Qigong, martial arts, and philosophical traditions with modern medical science to improve vitality, balance, and holistic health.
Unlike practices focused only on physical exercise, Zhineng Qigong emphasizes openness, and consciousness to harmonize energy (Qi). Through regular practice, many people experience improved vitality and Well-being.
In the 1980s, Dr. Pang Ming established the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Center in China, where thousands of people came to study and practice. The center became known for its large-scale Qigong training methods and its focus on collective practice, personal transformation, and holistic health.
Today, teachers such as Master Yuantong Liu continue sharing and preserving these teachings, helping students around the world deepen their understanding and practice of Zhineng Qigong.

Zhineng Qigong Practice Methods

Hold Qi Up, Pour Qi Down Method
The Hold Qi Up, Pour Qi Down Method (Peng Qi Guan Ding Fa) is the foundational Level One practice of Zhineng Qigong, developed by Dr. Pang Ming, in which gentle flowing movements and focused awareness draw universal Qi into the body to open the Qi channels and support self-healing.
Suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, Level One focuses on building a strong foundation by improving Qi flow, calming the mind, and creating greater harmony throughout the body. It is often practiced daily as a way to support overall wellbeing and balance.

3 Centres Merge Method
The Three Centres Merge Method is a standing meditation practice of Zhineng Qigong that unites awareness of the crown, the palms, and the soles to merge body, mind, and Qi into a single, centered state.
Practitioners work with the connection between the crown of the head, the centers of the palms, and the centers of the soles of the feet, bringing awareness inward toward the lower dantian. Through stillness, posture, and focused consciousness, the practice helps unify body, mind, and Qi into a more centered and integrated state.

Wall Squats Method
The Wall Squat Method is a Zhineng Qigong practice that uses slow, aligned squatting movements to relax, open, and strengthen the lower back and spine, improving the flow of Qi and blood through the body’s foundational energy center.
Although simple in appearance, this method requires deep awareness, alignment, and gradual development through consistent practice.
In Zhineng Qigong theory, the lower back is considered a vital area connected to the body’s foundational Qi and overall vitality. By gently opening this region through the Wall Squat Method, practitioners aim to improve the natural flow of Qi and blood throughout the body while releasing tension held in the spine, hips, and legs.

Chen Qi Method
The Chen Qi Method is a Zhineng Qigong practice in which stillness and concentrated intention settle, condense, and refine internal Qi, deepening stability and the connection between mind and body.
Through stillness and concentrated intention, practitioners learn to gather Qi and guide it to where it is needed most. This method supports deeper internal balance, improved stability, and a stronger connection between mind and body.

La Qi Method
The La Qi Method is a foundational Zhineng Qigong practice in which rhythmic opening and closing of the hands with focused awareness gathers, expands, and exchanges Qi with the surrounding universal Qi field.
Through gentle hand movements and focused awareness, practitioners learn to sense and work with Qi directly.
By repeatedly opening and closing the hands with intention, practitioners cultivate greater awareness of internal energy and begin to experience the dynamic relationship between giving, receiving, and harmonizing Qi.

Body and Mind Method
The Body and Mind Method (Xing Shen Zhuang) is the Level Two practice of Zhineng Qigong, an internal Hunyuan method that uses deeper physical movement to guide Qi into the muscles, tendons, and bones, unifying body and mind.
It is more physically demanding than the foundational Hold Qi Up, Pour Qi Down Method.
This stage introduces Internal Hunyuan, where the mind turns inward and merges with the Qi inside the body. While external Hunyuan connects with Qi from the environment, internal Hunyuan focuses on refining and guiding Qi within, helping unify it through all parts of the body for greater balance and harmony.

Dr. Pang Ming

Dr. Pang Ming (also known as Grandmaster Pang Ming) was a visionary Chinese Qigong master, physician, and researcher who developed Zhineng Qigong in the late 1970s and 1980s. He synthesized decades of training in traditional Chinese medicine, martial arts, Daoist and Buddhist cultivation practices, and modern science into a systematic, accessible mind-body discipline.
Dr. Pang's vision was radical: he believed Qigong should not be reserved for advanced practitioners or monastics, but should be made accessible to ordinary people as a practical path to health and self-healing. He systematized the theory and methods of Qigong into a structured curriculum that could be taught at scale, making Zhineng Qigong — meaning "Wisdom Qigong" — one of the most widely practiced forms of Qigong in the world today.
His work integrated the concepts of Hunyuan Qi — the unified, primordial energy of the universe — with modern understandings of consciousness and the body's self-healing capacity. He authored numerous books and training manuals on Qigong science, laying the theoretical foundation that continues to guide teachers and practitioners worldwide.
The Huaxia Medicineless Hospital
In 1988, Dr. Pang Ming co-founded the Hebei Shijiazhuang Zhineng Qigong College with Masters Cao Hefang and Feng Yili — affectionately known as the "Three Dragons." In 1991, the center moved to Qinhuangdao and was renamed the Hua Xia Zhineng Qigong Training Center, becoming what the world would come to know as the first "medicine-less hospital."
At the Huaxia center, patients with serious and chronic conditions were treated using Zhineng Qigong practice — without pharmaceutical drugs, surgery, or conventional medical interventions. Patients participated in intensive group practice, received Qi therapy from trained practitioners, and learned the methods themselves as a path to self-healing. The center became a living laboratory for the scientific study of Qi and consciousness.

The Huaxia center operated until 2001, treating patients from across China and around the world. Its remarkable results — documented across more than 180 disease types — demonstrated the potential of Qigong as a complementary approach to health and healing. The center's legacy lives on through the teachers and practitioners trained there, who continue to share Zhineng Qigong globally.
Among those trained at the Huaxia center was Master Yuantong Liu, who worked closely with Dr. Pang Ming for 10 years and has dedicated his life to carrying these teachings to the world.
Master Yuantong Liu

Master Yuantong Liu is one of the most experienced Zhineng Qigong teachers in the world today. He trained directly under Dr. Pang Ming at the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Center — the world's first medicine-less hospital — where he worked closely with Dr. Pang for 10 years, deepening his mastery of both the theory and practice of Zhineng Qigong and Hunyuan Qi Therapy.
With over 40 years of experience practicing and teaching, Master Liu has dedicated his life to sharing the healing wisdom of Zhineng Qigong with the world. After the Huaxia center closed in 2001, he became one of the key figures carrying the authentic lineage of Dr. Pang Ming's teachings beyond China, teaching across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia.
He is the founder of Life Qi Center and the author of Ancient Chinese Qi Medicine: The Secrets to Holistic Health, Well-Being, and Modern Life, a book that integrates over 5,000 years of Chinese wisdom with modern science. He offers teacher certification trainings, Hunyuan Qi Therapy programs, and free monthly online healing sessions accessible to practitioners worldwide.

Dr. Pang Ming structured Zhineng Qigong into three progressive levels, guiding practitioners from working with external energy to the deepest levels of internal consciousness.
Level One — External Hunyuan
The foundational level works with Qi from the environment. Practitioners learn to gather, exchange, and direct universal Qi through gentle movements and focused awareness. The core method is Lift Qi Up, Pour Qi Down, supported by practices like La Qi and the Three Centres Merge. This level builds the foundation for all deeper practice and is suitable for beginners.
Level Two — Internal Hunyuan
The intermediate level turns awareness inward, guiding Qi into the muscles, tendons, and bones. The core method is the Body and Mind Method (Xing Shen Zhuang), which uses deeper physical movement to unify body and mind. Practitioners refine internal Qi and develop a stronger, more integrated connection between consciousness and the physical body.
Level Three — Central Hunyuan
The advanced level works with consciousness itself, merging mind and Qi at the deepest level. This stage involves stillness, meditation, and the cultivation of the central dantian. It is typically practiced under the guidance of an experienced teacher and builds upon the foundations established in Levels One and Two.

Is Zhineng Qigong safe for beginners?
Yes. Zhineng Qigong was specifically designed by Dr. Pang Ming to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or prior experience. The foundational Level One practices — especially Lift Qi Up, Pour Qi Down — use gentle, flowing movements that are safe and easy to learn. As with any new practice, consult your healthcare provider if you have a health condition.
How often should I practice Zhineng Qigong?
Daily practice is ideal, even if only for 15–30 minutes. Consistency is more important than duration. Many practitioners find that a regular morning or evening practice creates the best foundation for experiencing the benefits of Zhineng Qigong. At the Huaxia center, patients practiced several hours daily in an intensive setting, but for personal practice, a shorter daily session is highly effective.
What is the difference between Zhineng Qigong and other forms of Qigong?
Zhineng Qigong was developed by Dr. Pang Ming as a modern, systematized approach that integrates traditional Qigong with contemporary science. Unlike some traditional forms that are passed down only to selected students, Zhineng Qigong was designed to be taught at scale and practiced by anyone. It emphasizes the role of consciousness (Yi) in directing Qi, and its three-level structure provides a clear progression path from beginner to advanced practice.
What is the Universal Qi Field?
The Universal Qi Field is a core concept in Zhineng Qigong. It refers to the unified, primordial energy (Hunyuan Qi) that pervades all of nature. Practitioners learn to connect with and draw from this field through practice, rather than relying solely on their own internal energy. This principle of openness and exchange with the universal Qi field is what distinguishes Zhineng Qigong from more internally focused energy practices.
